definitely wasn't expecting this ...

Love the bystanders ... and the fry referee ...

Generally roasted on a brace over a wood fire ...

DH and I could eat this just about daily.

Italian zodiac

Miserably hot here the last few days ... DH picked up a pizza on the way home from the poker tournament.

The local pizza place has a new logo on their boxes.

GO AHEAD, DRINK AND DRIVE ....

Seems to me, that residents of many countries other than the U.S. are quite comfortable leaving a drink that may have been barely touched on the table .... the drink is a relatively minor part of the main activity which is spending time with friends and acquaintances. 

Many Americans, on the other hand, will finish the drink off when they leave, even if they are going to another place and can get another drink there ... the mentality being "don't want to let it go to waste" or "I spent good money on that".

This pattern of thinking is part of the reason behind signs like this ....

WINE SHOP SIGN & IRON-WORK

A sign I liked and the shop window cover just below Carini Palace (the town of Carnini is a bit west of Palermo). I really like the ironwork on the window.

UMMMM .... ROAST CHICKEN!

This is the marquee for a local take-away food store serving typical Sicilian items --- can be anywhere from three or four dishes to 15 or 20 ... you tell the clerk which items you want and how much (usually sold by weight).

We usually get Giarrosto which is the local name for rotissary chicken. Lots of places sell it - quite reasonable - generally it comes stuffed with potatoes (either wedges or fries), olives and for some reason, the last few we have gotten have included an Italian hot dog (no idea why that is stuffed in there).
